Tender Buttons Project

The second assignment for Motion Graphics was to choose a passage from a poem by Geretrude Stein. The part I choose was Roast Beef:

“In the inside there is sleeping, in the outside there is reddening, in the morning there is meaning, in the evening there is feeling. In the evening there is feeling.”

With this in mind I created a story board. At first I was inspired by stop motion and later animated posters:

However I decided that instead I would create all the images in after effects instead of doing raster images.

Whilst I was going through the process, I couldn’t figure out where the type should go. I tried and thought about different ways to input the text. In the following videos are those different processes (first 2 are different arangement of type and the third is a possible intro):

Ultimately I decided to create a new video with the images and text moving around in shifting boxes in spirit of the square movement in my first iteration of this project (beginning part of process video). This was done in the hopes that the type felt more integrated with the images.
